Camp Canopy Machans

The Machan is proud to launch Camp Canopy. A series of Three 800sqft. Luxury Machans with Tented accommodation on them.

In keeping with the theme of the original Machan each Luxury Machan Tent is raised on a platforms 30ft. above the forest floor. This allows our guests to obtain fantastic panoramic views of the valley below and the evergreen hills beyond them.Camp Canopy Floating Machan

Camp Canopy is nestled within the same lush 25 acre private forest as The Machan. Offering our guests all the peace, tranquillity and green space they desire.

Accommodation:

The climb up a spiral staircase leads you onto a large 800sqft. wooden platform, 30ft. in the air above the trees. The deck is made from 100% recycled hard wood and is enclosed within glass railings to offer continuous unobstructed views of the surrounding greenery.

On the platform is pitched a Luxury Safari Tent. Each tent has been designed to custom specifications, taking into consideration the unique application and local weather conditions. Impeccably crafted from imported materials the tent’s dual fly (roof) design keeps its inhabitants comfortably sheltered from the sun or pouring rain. Each Luxury Machan Tent has three sections i] Master Bedroom ii] Full Bathroom iii] Wooden Deck.

Camp Canopy Master BedroomThe Master Bedroom [16ft. x 14ft.] is very spacious for a couple. The room has parquet flooring and is tastefully decorated with hand picked relics and artwork to create an authentic period feel. Even the sold brass light fixtures in these tents have been salvaged from ancient ships. The roof, walls and even the floor of the Tent is made from one continuous piece of fabric that encapsulates the room and prevents any unwanted guests from crawling in. Devoid of standard brick and concrete walls, the tent truly instils a feeling of being out in nature which is further accentuated by the airy feel provided by five large windows.Campy Canopy Bathroom

Attached to the Master Bedroom is a modern tiled bathroom [7ft. x 14ft.] . Complete with hot and cold running water this bathroom has an expansive skylight over the shower to continue the feeling of being in the great outdoors.

Extending outward from the Master Bedroom in a massive Wooden Deck [13ft. x 20ft.]. We highly recommend spending an evening gazing at the heavens above from the comfort of this private deck. This deck also has a sheltered section [6ft. x 14ft.] which offers guests a chance to sit out in the open during the day and enjoy the fantastic views and gentle breeze.

Just like The Machan, Camp Canopy has no grid connectivity what-so-ever. Electricity is generated through our wind and solar farm and pure mountain water is pumped from our 300ft. deep bore, for your consumption.

Location:

Camp Canopy located at Jambulne [20 minutes from Lonavala] - in the Sahyadri Hills of the Western Ghats – lies in one of 25 biological hotspots of the world. In the immediate vicinity are the mountain top forts of Korai, Ambawane & Tungi, as well as, the huge Pauna & Mulshi lakes.

Camp Canopy ViewThis personal retreat with wild evergreen trees is fenced in, secure & ensures total privacy. The monsoon rains fill the ponds & streams flow through this land. Wild flowers bloom, while the clouds descend all around you. Winters are cool [night temp. 7 C] and by then, the northern migratory birds are also seen nesting here. A bonfire provides the required warmth on most evenings. Even warm summer afternoons are fairly pleasant, under our forest canopy.

This 25 acre piece of Tropical Cloud Forest, situated at 2,800 ft. was acquired in 1993, with an objective to bring back the natural flora and fauna of the Western Ghats. Today with more than 90% of the wild trees/shrubs flowering & fruiting, birds are nesting in greater numbers. A few barking deer have now made Jambulne their permanent home. Small animals like rabbit, mongoose, porcupine, squirrel etc. are a far more common occurrence. An ecologically balanced Forest has now emerged.

Please visit our Image gallery for a more in-depth look at the Camp Canopy Machans.

Suggested Activities:

Traditionally our guests engage in a host of nature oriented activities such as trekking, bird watching or stargazing. Trekking in the forest along 5 km of private paths you may spot barking deer, rabbits and a plethora of interesting birds. The entire 25 acre property is fenced in so guests can trek without interruption and in complete safety. Regularly scheduled guided treks along our paths are also conducted for our guests. For those more adventurous guided treks to the 1000ft. peak behind us can also be arranged. This trek is recommended for intermediate hikers and the rewards are certainly worth it. From a height of around 4000ft. above sea level the views of the historical forts, valleys and expansive lakes around are exceptional. If you are an avid bird watcher, then our forest canopy will offer you a perfect opportunity for spotting. It is inhabited by numerous resident and migratory birds. Lastly, on a clear night star gazing is always an interesting option.

“Thanks for this unique experience. This was a very unique and special birthday gift to my husband.

Your staff is very courteous and caring, had a nice trek in the morning.

Sure to come back with my little daughter and family to enjoy more of this calm and beautiful place.

To the owners, your hospitality and warmth drew me to this place right from the very first time that I spoke with you. As I mentioned before I knew this would be one of the best birthday gifts that I gave my husband, all thanks to you.

Warm regards. ”

“We came here to celebrate our second marriage anniversary, knowing that this would be a special place. When we made our way up the spiral staircase, we knew we would not be disappointed. The rooms were tastefully decorated and the view was enthralling. I think the food could be improved e.g. some fresh salads would be nice. Even fresh fruit juice would be lovely, though I know procurement is a challenge.

Thank you so much for letting us stay in this beautiful, eco-friendly retreat.

P.S. I really enjoyed the camp fire chit chat, it was so nice getting to know the family. Your hospitality and presence made our stay a special experience. Thanks again! ”

“10:00 am

Location: In the jungles of ‘The Machan’

Just finished breakfast amidst the jungle surroundings. I’ve been handed over this book to pen down a few of my thoughts regarding ‘The Machan’.

Firstly let me say this place is much much better than what we saw on the net.

Pro’s

- Squeaky clean rooms

- Aesthetically a beautiful place

- Very good service

- Great happy staff. Everyone has got a smile on their faces

- Good food

- Very very naturalistic

- Noiseless

- Feel soulfully connected to this place

Con’s

- Don’t really want to go back home after experiencing ‘The Machan’

Suggestions

Please please keep it this way and don’t make it commercial.

Meeting the owners was a good experience too. Very warm family, with an ever more warmer ‘Klutz’!!

Thanks and keep the good work going.

P.S. Keep it the same way. Signboard not needed. The two white rocks do the trick! ”

“The entire experience can be defined in one word 'Fantabulous'!

My first call to The Machan did it all, the manner in which one should address customer queries over the phone was done best by The Machan Team. The “experience” right from making a reservation to checking out cannot be put into words.

Everyone provides customer service these days, not many deal in something that the Machan does. That “something” is Customer Empathy...

I am a person who observes details: the welcome drink, 'lunch in the woods' – I loved this the most, home cooked food, lovely room service, well mannered staff, excellent manager Wasim bhai, the lovely informative trek by Bhima, smiley bong guy Alok: stuff that even a Hilton would not provide.

The room dynamics, the fixtures, the wooden flooring, brass nuts and bolts that hold the furniture together, the quality of the hand wash liquid, bathroom fixtures, the marble flowing in the bathroom, the splendid view, the evidence of reducing our Carbon footprint, the candle lit dinner, the books on the shelves in the bathroom and many other details in the Camp Canopy Machan “Awed” me.

In a Nutshell: “Splendid” Keeping this place Exclusive would retain its beauty. We would be visiting soon again. ”

You have a very beautiful place, your staff is the real pleasure, had the most amazing time and loved your setup of all the rooms. Only that the climate a bit warm, but I am sure that it will be even more beautiful in the rains.

Thank you very much for everything and we will definitely come back again & again.

"A place like this doesn’t really need words of praise. Because frankly, no amount of adjectives can actually match up to the experience that this tiny little patch of heaven has to offer.

Will hope to come back again very soon!"

– Nikhil & Payal Meghe, Mar. 16, 2010

"First of all thanks for sharing this beautiful place and allowing us to be a part of this and experience.

Experience of being here cannot be described in words. People just dream of having such a place and that too a sketchy dream, but I compliment the conceiver for not only conceiving but also make it possible and also sharing his joys with others.

Truly this is one of the best places I have come to after travelling and seeing most parts of India.

Thought I am a very choosy person and a perfectionist I could not find any faults here.

Great! Please keep it up so that people could come over and over again. I have a home away from home!!! Felt very possessive about the place.

P.S. 1. Need one more table fan at least. 2. Empty space in bathroom could be used for providing a wardrobe for clothes to be stashed away. "

"'Camp Canopy' at 'The Machan' is the perfect to reconnect with Nature and revive the lost connection with 'your soul'. A very soothing place, sun’s rays playing light and shadow from morning till evening, followed by a breathtakingly romantic sunset – which sets a sense of calmness within you followed by an enchanting night showered with dense bunches of stars. Just couldn’t stop watching the sky until our necks started hurting.

Well dispersed within the day are nice breaks for the most delicious lunch/dinner with an “icing on the cake” of the most hospitable hosts. Leaves a mark of extreme luxury and the most memorable experience throughout a lifetime.

Do keep the beauty and serenity of the place intact. Keep a stringent control on safeguarding nature and keeping it clean and untouched.

Wish you all “ALL THE BEST” for the same and heartfelt thanks for an amazing time.

You have got the best of the staff (inmates) who are always striving to make it a 'life time experience'. "

– Pranjal & Anay, Mar. 7, 2010

"One of the most beautiful places we have been till date. Congratulations on making this such an awesome experience. An absolute gem in a world where we have lost the connection with Nature. We look forward to visiting this heavenly abode again and again.

Suggestion: Please please keep the place unchanged and less crowded. Good bless!"

– Rahul & Payal, Mar. 1, 2010

"It was a wonderful time spent. A beautiful place and it felt close to Nature. Couldn’t find a better place than this. A perfect place to be alone and get connected to yourself.

Best anniversary spent ever.

The Bathroom is amazing."

– Sejal Paul, Feb. 17, 2010

"It was a pleasure to here and be one with nature. We appreciate the “no television”, “no music system” and feel great about the wind and solar energy generated. If each one would think like the owners of The Machan, we would attract more people/tourists to India. The flora fauna, the walking trails, the uncut trees – all contribute to having a wonderful experience, de-stress and understanding the importance of living.

Perfect for anniversaries-romantic getaway.

Love the experience."
