Once the Forest canopy developed, we felt the need to give it protection on a self sustaining basis but also find a way to incentivize the local farmers, particularly the neighboring Adivasis, to protect the forest themselves. It was decided to Breed [by cross pollination] & cultivate [in narrow 4 ft. wide plots] following the contours of the land & trees, the bulbous flowering plant - Amaryllis [Hippeastrum].
We now have more than 700,000 Amaryllis bulbs in various stages of growth. We hope to soon extend their cultivation to the neighboring areas, so that the villager can have an improved livelihood, without damaging the environment.
