Slash & burn had greatly damaged the barks of the plants making them greatly susceptible to Termite attack. In 1993, over 50% of the trees were affected by termites. Every alternate year, individually affected trees are still treated. The termite eradication program has taken much longer than planned. Most of the private forest land around our fence, except on the west [Govt. forest], which were once wooded [till 1995], have been gradually destroyed. Now, when the termites swarm [in the beginning of the rains] ours is the only well wooded area available to them to set up new colonies.
With regular termite control, only 5% of the trees still remain affected.
