Earthen check bunds were built in the natural depressions & rice fields, left fallow by previous owners. The purpose was to improve & extend the availability of sub soil moisture [upto February] to the surrounding flora. Also, perennial water holes with salt licks are maintained for the animals & birds to tide over the summer months. The Bore wells are recharged in the monsoons.
Earthen Check Bunds have helped in raising the water table while extending the period of sub soil moisture. Unfortunately, one Bund has been rendered useless. It is filled with silt from soil erosion, caused by deforestation, upstream from our land.
